IBS Research Centre Partners with EMTV to Deliver Groundbreaking Media Consumption Study Across Papua New Guinea

Port Moresby, February 2019 — The IBS Research Centre has successfully completed a nationwide media consumption study in partnership with EMTV, Papua New Guinea’s leading national television broadcaster. The project aimed to provide in-depth insights into viewer preferences across TV, radio, and print media platforms.

Spanning 11 provinces—including Port Moresby, Lae, Mt. Hagen, Kokopo, Alotau, Goroka, Kavieng, Kimbe, Madang, Wabag, and Wewak—the study surveyed 2,800 respondents using a stratified random sampling approach. The objective was to understand what types of programs people watch, which radio channels they listen to, and the newspapers they read in different regions of PNG.

“This study provided EMTV with a clear understanding of regional viewing habits and helped shape their future programming strategy,” said a representative from IBS Research Centre. “It reflects our commitment to delivering reliable, data-driven insights that enable organizations to make informed decisions.”

The results are now guiding EMTV in tailoring content to specific audience segments, strengthening regional relevance, and enhancing their engagement with viewers and advertisers alike.

This collaboration highlights the growing role of data in shaping media strategies and reaffirms IBS Research Centre’s position as a trusted research partner in Papua New Guinea.
